World Environmental Day (2021-2025)

World Environmental Day

A Legacy of Action

Each year, World Environment Day offers a chance to reflect on our collective responsibility to protect the planet while taking practical steps toward restoring and preserving the environment. At FAFSAR, we have embraced this global call to action, partnering with Limbe Council, FOREP, and AFURAKA to transform words into meaningful change for our communities.

From 2019 to 2025, our World Environment Day celebrations have evolved into a platform for environmental education, practical tree planting, and community engagement, strengthening our commitment to building resilient urban and rural landscapes in Cameroon.

Green Adventure

The 2020 celebrations saw an expansion of our activities in partnership with Limbe Council and FOREP. We organised environmental education sessions in partner schools, where pupils learned about tree planting, climate change, and personal environmental responsibility.

Despite limitations caused by global challenges, we maintained our commitment by planting additional fruit and ornamental trees along community roads and encouraging households to participate in maintaining green spaces.

In 2019, FAFSAR marked World Environment Day with radio awareness campaigns at Eternity Gospel Radio and Eden Radio, where we shared insights on climate action, reforestation, and sustainable living. We engaged listeners on the urgency of replacing hazardous trees with environmentally beneficial species, and the role each individual plays in protecting the environment.

We conducted a small-scale tree planting exercise along the Isokolo to Government High School Road, planting ornamental and fruit trees while educating community members on tree care and the importance of urban greenery.

What Sets Alstonia scholaris Apart

In 2021, FAFSAR intensified its collaboration with Limbe Council and AFURAKA, increasing the scale of tree planting along the Isokolo Road and near Government High School. We focused on planting shade trees, fruit trees, and ornamental species, with a long-term goal of reducing urban heat, improving air quality, and providing economic and social benefits through fruit harvests and shaded public spaces.

We continued our radio sensitisation at Eternity Gospel Radio and Eden Radio, discussing the intersection of environmental health and community wellbeing while inviting volunteers to join our mission.

2022: Youth and Education Focus

For World Environment Day 2022, FAFSAR placed a strong emphasis on youth involvement and environmental education. We organised excursions to partner schools, providing interactive sessions on the importance of reforestation, the role of trees in carbon sequestration, and practical training on tree Fafsar | 2026planting techniques.

Tree planting exercises were expanded to additional segments of the Isokolo Road, with community youth groups actively participating in the planting and tagging of trees for monitoring and educational purposes.

2023: Building Partnerships and Local Ownership

In 2023, our celebrations highlighted community ownership of environmental initiatives. We worked closely with Limbe Council and local youth volunteers, enabling them to lead planting activities under FAFSAR’s guidance. The partnership with FOREP and AFURAKA strengthened as we identified additional planting sites, including open spaces near partner schools and community centres.

Our visits to Eternity Gospel Radio and Eden Radio continued to serve as a platform for educating the public, sharing practical environmental tips, and inviting community participation in our initiatives.

We deepened school partnerships by integrating tree planting into environmental science lessons and involving teachers in monitoring tree growth. Our media appearances on local radio stations focused on the tangible benefits of tree planting in addressing local climate challenges and improving community wellbeing.

2025: A Vision for Regeneration

In 2025, FAFSAR aims to make World Environment Day a landmark event by combining practical tree planting with high-impact community education. In partnership with Limbe Council, FOREP, and AFURAKA, we plan to:

  • Expand the planting of climate-resilient ornamental, fruit, and shade trees along major roads, including the Isokolo to Government High School route.

  • Organise tree monitoring and care workshops for community volunteers and school eco-clubs.

  • Continue our radio education campaigns to reach wider audiences, focusing on urban forestry, waste management, and sustainable lifestyles.

  • Facilitate school excursions, providing hands-on environmental education and encouraging youth-led climate action.

Beyond Planting: Building a Culture of Environmental Stewardship

FAFSAR’s World Environment Day activities are not just about planting trees; they are about cultivating a culture of environmental stewardship within communities. Each planted tree symbolises hope, climate action, and a shared commitment to building healthier cities and resilient ecosystems.

Through these annual celebrations, FAFSAR remains committed to:

  • Increasing green cover in urban and peri-urban areas.

  • Empowering youth and communities with environmental education.

  • Promoting climate adaptation and resilience through practical action.

  • Strengthening partnerships that advance sustainable development in Cameroon.
